We arrived just in time to get a little pool time in before heading to dinner.
Bigs has his camera all set up to capture some footage of the plane taking off.
Early the next day, we were quick to hit the water at our fave--Polo Beach.
Ry is now pretty good at bodyboarding, so we spent about 6 hours in the water.
The McGoughs were on the island when we arrived. Hayley & Zoe at Polo.
The GoPro gets some cool accidental shots, like this one of the clouds.
Hey look, our old friend Greenie is still working his magic.
After a long morning battling the waves, it was time for some eats at Kea Lani.
Any McGough hook up worth it's salt usually involves beer.
After Maui Brewing beers, it was over to Mulligans for more beer and dinner.
On our way to the backside of Haleakala, we hit the Makawao 4th of July Parade.
Which of course meant we had to T Komodo for their epic stick donuts. Yummy.
We found this awesome stand in Up Country and snagged some road treats.
Bigs and his new island friend Captain Smiley enjoy a little time in the sunshine.
We took a quick pitstop to stretch our legs and found this amazing black beach.
This awesome old store looked like it had been collecting cameras since WWII.
We found some great waterfalls hiking on the backside.
We made our way up to this bridge to a dense bamboo forest.
And boom, we were suddenly in the middle of awesomeness.
Bigs looking pretty tired of walking through a Hawaiian jungle in humid 85 degree heat.
But it did have these majestically-positioned jumbo jackfruits.
Post-hike, the Jackos searched for refreshments. This fruit stand didn't cut it.
On the route back, we found another one of the amazing black beaches here.
It's so hard to be this close to Wailea and know you're still two hours away.
After a hot day of hiking, Craig & Zoe went snorkeling early.
The day came to a delicious end at our beloved Sansei.
Here is Bigs taking a swim with this little guy and some shell cleaning fish.
That moment when you're pretty close to one of these guys and turns toward you.
Diving down to the bottom to get a look at a turtle nestled down in the coral.
Nobody contested Craig's brilliant suggestion to hit Lappert's after dinner.
Hayley and Zoe chill near the fountain to enjoy some frozen Lappert's treats.
The next day the hardier McGoughs and Jacobins hit Ahi for big boy snorkeling.
Here are Zoe, Craig and Ryan after another epic sesh.
Bigs paddling his way into the surf in the hopes of hitting a barrel roll.
Catching his breath after a nice ride, Bigs looks out for the next big set to roll in.
So they hit the Ekahi pool and played a little shuffleboard to while away the day.
With the McGoughs gone, the Jackos were left to entertain themselves.
Close up shots are hard to come by but this one of a female is pretty solid.
Another trip to Nalu's for some patriotic french toast.
Just in time to see Joey Chestnut plow down dozens of hot dogs at Coney Island.
It's fun to watch all the amateur fireworks that get set off along the beach.
The sun setting on another 4th of July on the island.
Another cool shot of one
of the prettiest places on
earth--Wailea, Maui.
We found this spot above above Kula and it was creepy.
Time for some more hiking and a trip back to Haleakala for a foggy hike.
Ryan standing next to the root system of a huge fallen tree along the way.
Later that night it was time for some Ululani's Shave Ice.
The Jackos on the precipice of another grand Hawaiian adventure.
And we were rewarded with a few hours with about twenty Hawaiian sea turtles.
A photographer sets up for some celestial pics from one of the best spots on earth.
Heading down into the soup and a little dinner after a long day on the volcano.
We closed out the day by
catching "Finding Dory"
and all we found was a truly
sad loss of our poppy-corn
on the way to our seats.
Hayley and Zoe wondering when their delicious Nalu breakfast is going to show.
The final full day of the trip means one thing--roughly 8 long hours riding waves.
We got lucky and had a pretty decent swell that day. It was hard to head home.
We closed out the morning with a tasty Nalu's lunch.
The backside route around Haleakala is the one the rental car companies warn you about. They're nuts.
We have great waves in So-CA but nothing beats the clear, warm water of Maui.
We did make it back
in time to take a
quick dip in the pool
right around sunset.
Usually the best
time to hit the pool.
We also ran into this amazing banyon tree out in the wild. Maui rocks.
Our final meal on the island included this Mai Tai at The Pod.
After a tasty dinner at Duo, the Jackos made their way to the pool for fireworks.
Bigs takes a quick dip to cool off on a warm summer night.
Wanted to find that elusive Octopus, Craig had to settle for this purple starfish.
This snorkel run was at Makena Landing which has a pretty nasty current.
Yet another spectacular
sunset from just outside
of the pool. Amazing.
The Jackos on the precipice of another grand Hawaiian adventure.
After a morning in the water, Bigs was jonesing for a little pep-turk from Subway.
After the hike, we continued on to the Haleakala summit for some sunset pics.
The view of Makena Landing from above the beach is always amazing.
Flip doesn't get to totally put her work away. But at least she has a great view.
We met up with Anhdai's brother Vu (holding camera) and family for a night.
But there is some pretty cool stuff out there and not many other snorkelers.
One final shot of the south
end of our beach at the
Ekahi. It's been fun!!
The Fourth of July was spent at one of our favorite snorkeling spots on Maui.
