Events 2013: Maui Trip
At least this kid still appears to be somewhat normal.
DAY 1
Hanging with Elisabeth Moss from Mad Men at Hertz.
It's never too late the take those first waves of the trip.
For some reason, this is Ryan's stock face when the camera appears.
The first full
day was pretty
much chilling
by the pool and
getting into the
island vibe.
The little man stole the show with his bravery.
The fantastic lobby of the hotel and our fave mermaid.  Toss in a coin!!
OK, not exactly a yellowtail, but this guy put up a fight.
Stuck in the condo all night, Ryan did some cleaning.
Don't worry, little guy--I'll protect from those big fish.
The birthday festivities continued throughout the day.
Sean's tweaking of the shark signs that closed the beach.
Bigs after rolling around in a giant hamster ball of water.
Bigsy has the tongue to prove his favorite is lemon-lime.
After shave ice, we hit the always-windy putt-putt place.
Aaaah yes, banana ice with a scoop of mac nut inside.
There's lots of cool art throughout the property.
Then it was off to Sansei for some delicious Japanese treats.
And of course, a trip to Lappert's--always on tap within the first 24 hours.
Here he is crashing through on a wave to the left of his old man.
He rides it all the way in and then scrambles to get in before the set's done.
Back at the condo, it's time for some more boogie board mania.
The two boys taking their boards out to the bigger waves.
Back at the condo, it was fun to see crazy weather like this--a sharknado!!
We had a nice ground-level
room this time, so it was
easy to enjoy the nice
grounds at the hotel.
The view of the dolphin pool with shark patrol in the background.
Ryan turned 11 today and he got a birthday gift that he couldn't eat--yeah!
A young hula performer about to go on stage.
Ryan tosses a coin onto the mermaid's plate to ensure our safe return.
Bigsy turned into a really solid boogie boarder this year.
An epic shot of Craig battling the surf right before he dropped his GoPro.
Our last view of the beach back at the condo--always a difficult moment.
Hey, there's Zoe!  Getting ready for a delicious final meal at Sansei.
And the little man with his mama--never too late to make a goofy face.
Despite threats of a rare tropical storm, we went ziplining on Haleakala.
This little guy reminded us of our carrot-in-nose-loving friend Syd Toole.
The view from the lanai at
the condo.  Always a
peaceful place to chill.
And then up in the air we go with Kaanapali below.
The view from inside Ululani's and their world's best shave ice.
Since we were up north, we had to hit Noodle Star yet again.
I'm going to miss this long hair era--he has to get it cut for school this fall.
Zoe looking into the camera as she makes her way over to some turtles.
And Craig with a selfie that only a true body-building god would appreciate.
We hit Kahekili Beach for the first time ever, just north of Black Rock.
Final stop of the trip, why Lappert's of course!
Here we are crossing an Indiana Jones-style bridge over a rocky gorge.
Our reward for braving the storm was great Mexican food in upcountry.
By late morning the next day (and after claiming our papaya tree), the storm had passed and it was back to the pool.
The snorkeling there was awesome as the fish were all hungry post-storm.
Despite the pools, it was the indoor court at the spa that had Bigs fired up.
Aaah, to be stress-free and in a comfy bed.
Later that afternoon we checked into the Grand Wailea.
DAY 2
DAY 3
DAY 4
DAY 5
Ryan after getting doused by an unexpected wave.
A fave spot in Lahaina is the epic Noodle Star.  Tasty.
Anhdai chilling out on the beach as the kids boogie.
The aftermath of
another in a long line
of classic "flippie
moves".  Just for the
record for all you
Lush fans--"Breath
Of God" is a perfume,
not a breath
freshener.  Yowza.
Ryan looking up
from the bottom
of the pool at the
condo.

DAY 14
Taking a break from the water to throw the ball around for a while.
Events 2013: Maui Trip
Just a super cool shot of a wall of water chasing some unsuspecting tourist.
Bigs laughing hysterically as he struggles to hang on to his board.
The waves seem to be getting bigger as the week goes on.  Weeeeeeeeee!
And here's another awesome shot of the crashing water caught in action.
The 2013 edition of a classic shot of the kiddies at the Maui Ocean Center.
This is actually our favorite aquarium--tons of really unique sea life.
A stingray glides over top of us above the glass walkway tube.
The turtles didn't disappoint.  We followed this guy for quite a while.
A trip down to Makena to search for turtles just beyond the secret path.
There's never anyone here but us and the sand.  Such a great secret spot.
Craig and Zoe give this turtle search in Makena a thumbs up.
Another very cool shot from the GoPro with distortion from water droplets.
The view of our beach from the center of a bubbly, crashing wave.
The ride back was
almost more fun
than the fishing as
soon as we hit the
trade winds and
heavy surf.
On this day, Craig & Ryan went deep sea fishing in search of big tuna.
Every day brings another awesome sunset.  Perfect for a nice glass of wine.
Zoe spent a lot of quality time with her iPad on this coach near the pool.
The order counter at the best breakfast spot on Maui--The Kihei Cafe.
Lots of bright red sea urchins amongst coral in Turtle Cove near Makena.
Craig & Zoe don their blue helmets for a little rain-soaked adventure.
The boys ziplined, while the chicken girls did a lot of hiking.
The two kiddies at our favorite steakhouse--Duo in the Four Seasons.
And their loving and very hip young parents on the other side of the table.
DAY 15
